Hi!

I'm Baptiste

I've been a backend software engineer for many years.
I've been working for early-stage startups as well as for unicorns, in the US, UK and now France.

Here are the skills I've been learning and growing over the years!

Soft skills

I've learned to develop my soft skills, to interact with my stakeholders, discuss how to decide on the team's priorities with my PMs and EMs. As I've progressed in my career I got to lead projects, to learn how to ensure they're delivered on time, and to write detailed tech specs for our next features.

I really enjoy pair programming with my teammates. I also find fulfillment in helping younger developers to grow technically, I'm always keen to learn from engineers who are more experienced than I am.

Architecture & Microservices

I've spent the last years designing and building reliable and scalable services. From monolithes to microservices, I'worked on Event-based systems and Clean/Onion/Hexagonal architectures.

An important part of my job is to build relevant metrics dashboards, monitors/alerts and SLOs around the services owned by my team.

I can't recommend enough reading the book Designing Data-Intensive Applications by Martin Kleppmann!

Tech skills

With the mindest of a generalist, I believe that pretty much any tool or language can do the job. That's why I'm always keen to learn the tech stack of the companies I joined.

Here is a list of the main technologies I have worked with throughout my professional career.

  • Cloud: AWS, GCP and a bit of Azure
  • Infra: Docker, Terraform, Datadog, Cloudflare
  • Languages: Python, Golang, Javascript, Ruby, C#
  • Frameworks: FastApi, Django, RoR, VueJS, and a bit of React
  • Databases: Postgres, MySQL, Redis
  • Tools: Nginx, RabbitMQ, Kafka (albeit being rusty on this one)
